Deep Bleaching is used for whitening teeth which is on the face of it is difficult and obstinate due to stains that have been the result of flurosis or tetracycline usage in the infancy and similar stains. This can help teeth to remain white for a long while.
How do you go about deep bleaching protocol?
The fist step for undergoing this treatment begins with a visit to the dentist who takes as usual the impressions of your teeth and gum line, on the basis of which he gets ready bleaching gel trays, made of vinyl, which is made especially for you. These trays will contain the bleaching gel and they are placed to fit in such a way that they go right up to the gum line. This helps bleaching gel to get it sealed inside, so that it can avoid saliva mixing with gel, and avoiding gum irritation. The first session will take you around 30 minutes.
The second step in the deep bleaching involves a conditioning visit, when your teeth are not merely whitened, but they are made more porous to take oxygen. The process includes polishing of outer surface of the teeth with pumice, followed by coatings of desensitizing conditioning agent rubbed on the teeth. Now the tray prepared especially for you, is filled with bleaching gel and pressed on to the teeth, where the trays will be stay for 20 minutes. After this, gel is removed, and trays are again loaded and re-placed for another 20 minutes and then removed, followed by desensitizing agents being rubbed on the teeth. The entire process can take about an hour.
The next step is at your home. You take home a kit which will have your tray, and gel for using every night for 14 nights. Nights are chosen because saliva flow will be less and there will no interference with bleaching action. The use of the trays is to ensure that not only the teeth are whitened, but also they are made permeable to oxygen.
The next step in the Deep bleaching protocol is a return to dentist, which will get you a power bleaching with retractors and rubber dam in place. Considering how deeply your teeth have received bleaching during the home sessions, your dentist will determine the percentage of hydrogen peroxide solution for bleaching, which will give you the maximum whiteness. This session will last for about an hour with dentist.
Your Deep bleaching exercise is not complete, because you are required to use the trays at lease once during the night time for three months. If you are in the habit of taking red wine daily, you may have to use the trays once in a fortnight.
Deep bleaching is a permanent teeth whitening process but like in all treatments, patients are expected to strictly adhere to the dentist’s advice. The entire process is expensive, because apart from costing dentists’ sessions, you have to pay for bleaching gels for each overnight treatment.
